majestic, yet tranquil landscape

oil on canvas board, 12 X 8
This is another class project, can't remember when I did this one. Might be a good idea to document that on the flip side for future reference. As I recall, I rather enjoyed doing this one it came together rather quickly, finished in two possibly three class periods.

in season

My newest endeavor. . . .
I'm currently working on what I have titled the pepper project. I'd began this last September, letting it slide to the wayside for the remainder of 2009. Just recently I've started back on them with my return to painting class this January. My self imposed goal is to learn the blending of colors, I want it to become second nature. What better way to learn . . repetition, repetition, repetition. I still have some more work on all four canvases. I must admit I'm struggling with the green colors a bit. My hope is to have them all finished up by the end of this month.

Back to the beginning . . . . .

This was the first painting I ever did. It is in acrylic on a stretched canvas.

'testing the waters'

Several of my seascapes . . .

These are my seascapes thus far. I've given two of them away as gifts to family members. The two on the easels were gifts.

My passion - learning to paint . . . . .

The copper pot with lemons was my first attempt at still life painting. It was some what of a challenge for me. I had to fight the overwhelming thoughts of 'I don't know what I'm doing" through nearly the entire painting project. Prior to this painting I'd been doing landscapes. This painting was completed in my adult painting class. I've been attending adult ed classes for several years now. I love them. It is a wonderful escape for me, it is one of the things I do that I can totally not be thinking about anything else.

It helps that I have a great teacher.

This is a snap shot of my second still life. This was also a class project. This one was painted from a staged arrangement of items, where as the pot w/ lemons was from a picture of a pre exsisting painting. I'm currently working on a still life of three different colored peppers. I'm doing an intense study of the blending of the colors, to help with my paint mixing and getting the variations of tones, shadows and highlights. I'm doing the same subject (painting) four times to commit the techniques to memory, make them happen with out thinking and fretting so much. Any way that's the plan.

Both of these paintings are in oil on canvas board.

Giving it a try.

Let's see, can I figure this out.

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and gonna give blogging an attempt.
